GDPR

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe. The regulation will be entered in to force on the 26th May 2018.

How will GDPR affect your business?

No matter where in the world you’re located or what type of business you run, the chances are you will have heard about the EU’s new privacy law called the GDPR. There’s lots of technical lingo out there being used to describe GDPR which makes it sound scarier than it is. So, we’ve tried to break down the key aspects of GDPR into bite sized chunks to help you understand what you need to do to keep your website, data records and online marketing compliant.

Your Existing Data

GDPR doesn’t just effect how you collect data in the future it may also impact your existing data. If you can’t prove that your existing subscribers have consented to being on your database then getting re-permissions is something you will need to obtain moving forward.

List Growth & Opt Ins

If you currently use opt in forms to collect personal data then the chances are their not currently GDPR compliant. Under the new law, how businesses can collect and use data has changed. Have an optin for a free programme? If you also want to send them a newsletter you’ll have to get separate consent for this.

Privacy Policy

Is your privacy policy GDPR compliant? If you don’t have a privacy policy then you need to add one to your site. If you already have one there’s a good chance its not GDPR compliant as the new law requires additional information to be included. At Caribou we provide GDPR compliant* privacy policies created by independent legal experts.

Privacy policies start from £95.00

Cookie Law

The EU Cookie Law has been operational for some years but many websites are still not compliant. Under GDPR most cookies are now treated as personal data including advertising/targeting and analytics cookies and if you are not compliant you are flouting both GDPR and Cookie Law.
